It was the Paul Whiteman Orchestra who first performed this blend of Jazz and Classical music in 1924 at the Aeolian Hall in New York City, with Gershwin at the piano, in a concert entitled An Experiment in Modern Music. His self-proclaimed title of the King of Jazz is controversial, considering that Jazz originated in New Orleans, but his impact on ballroom dance music is undeniable.
