Today’s concert featured five tracks from that album, all of which focused primarily on Argentinian influence: “Milonga de San Francisco,” “El Viejito,” “Luna Llena,” “Algo Nuevo,” and “Ombligao en Argentina,” all of which were composed by Jacobsen except for Ray Barretto’s “Algo Nuevo.” Cross-fertilization was particularly evident in a flamboyant introductory cadenza for “Ombligao en Argentina” performed by Fankuchen, which almost created the illusion that Eugène Ysaÿe had been born in Argentina, possibly in a bed next to that of Jean Sibelius.
